According to the University of Uppsala, there are 54 armed conflicts worldwide involving states. In total, 33 countries took part and more than 84,000 people died in the fighting.

In 2010, 10.7 thousand people died as a result of the deliberate use of armed force against civilians. 5.4 thousand people died because of organized violence by armed groups, 5.3 thousand as a result of the actions of government troops. Ethiopia (4,238) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (2,207) suffered the largest civilian casualties.

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the world for a global ceasefire. However, he was not heard. 81.5 thousand people died in all kinds of armed conflicts in 2020. The number of combat casualties rose for the first time in five years: this number has been steadily declining since 2015. In 2021, the increase in the number of victims accelerated: more than 120,000 people died in the fighting.

That is why the members of the “Connected Hearts” association consistently advocate combining efforts to end global and local armed conflicts, strengthening the influence of the United Nations and using the available diplomatic resources in Ukraine, Armenia and Israel.
